Job Description
The Program Director will facilitate all aspects of the Summer Resident Camp and Family Camp programs under the supervision of the Senior Camp Director, carry out programmatic duties during the Conference and Retreat season, and maintain supporting roles in the marketing of CSB programs and fundraising efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and or equivalent experience in a related field
Intimate knowledge of camp industry standards (American Camp Association)
Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Experience in budget management
Public speaking and customer service experience
Strong background in staff supervision and leadership
Knowledge and experience dealing with international personnel and relationships
Basic knowledge in camp activities offered – Motorboat Driving, Sailing, High Ropes, Archery and Rifle Range Operations, Aquatics
Essential Functions
Priorities
Responsible for the safe and effective operation of all Camp Silver Beach (CSB) program areas
Upholds all American Camp Association standards in the operation of all programs at CSB.
Assists the Senior Camp Director in achieving and maintaining all documentation and implementation of these standards in an orderly manner and for periodic review including the accreditation process
Assists the Senior Camp Director in the hiring of all summer and seasonal staff, both domestic and international (including recruitment travel and communication through both formal and appropriate social media means)
Maintains a working knowledge of the onboarding process for all potential and incoming seasonal staff members.
In cooperation with and under the direction of the Senior Camp Director, ensures that every hired seasonal staff member satisfactorily completes all requirements in the onboarding process until the point of being successfully entered into payroll
Takes a leadership role during Staff Training Week as outlined by the Senior Camp Director
Communicate with camper parents regarding their child’s experience at CSB.
Listens with sensitivity to all parent concerns and responds in a timely fashion, addressing each concern and implementing change when deemed appropriate
Travels to marketing shows of various formats to attract new camper enrollment
Strives to attain the camper registration goal set forth by the Executive Director each year, according to budget goals
Strives to improve upon all aspects of the camp program, utilizing downtime between seasons to research and implement improvements for the following season
Participates in the delivery of all conference programming needs, including, but not limited to Kayaking, High Ropes, Low Ropes/Team Building, Archery, Sports and Leisure
Reports to the Senior Camp Director regarding all responsibilities
Plans, develops, and implements camper recruitment/retention strategies, including any required communications for these purposes throughout the year
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending conventions and conferences related to the camp industry.
Attends the American Camp Association standards training at least once every 3 years
Acts as a fully participating member of the camp management team that includes the Program Director, Business Director, Administration Director, Maintenance and Property Directors, Conference/Food Service Director, and Executive Director
Provides strong leadership and support for attaining the Association’s goals and objectives
Provides strong fiscal management in all areas of responsibility
Communicates the YMCA mission and objectives to the community
Assists with and fosters strong Annual Campaign participation
Recognizes the necessity to work significant night and weekend hours, and willingly does so
Provides safe, enriching programs for all aspects of CSB
Executes all other tasks assigned by the supervisor
Living on-site is a requirement for the position
