61 hourly: Depending on Qualifications and Experience Job Description The Waste Management Division of Public Works is seeking dependable and self-motivated individuals to deliver essential quality services to the citizens of Chesapeake.
The candidate selected for this position will drive and operate automated side-loader, real-loader, and grapple truck for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse; will supervise subordinate staff of refuse collection crew; will assist workers with lifting cans and cleaning refuse areas; and will clean, inspect, and perform maintenance on refuse truck and equipment.
Additionally, the selected candidate will ensure safety of refuse collection including wearing protective equipment, being aware of coworkers and traffic, and watching for people around collection areas; will deliver yard waste trailers; will replace or repair damaged refuse cans where applicable, and will help crew with heavy loads up 75 pounds throughout the day while maintaining strong and professional customer relationships.

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training.
EXPERIENCE: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
