POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Youth Development Directors the Site Director is responsible for the general supervision and management of a licensed child care site and administrative duties for the Before & After School Program.
The Site Director holds primary responsibility for the education, health, welfare, and safety of the children at their site.
The Site Director possesses the youth competencies for the job that will allow him/her to provide high quality child care at all times.
The YMCA mission is your highest priority and its goals for these children and their families are of the utmost importance.
A professional, clean appearance and a respectful and committed attitude are always the minimal expectation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: PROGRAM DIRECTOR AT A SCHOOL SITE Ensure all children’s information in the File Binder is complete Ensure Licensing Board is visible each day of care with the appropriate items Ensure Licensing Binder is up to date with the proper information Ensure all staff are in uniform and engaging with the children daily Contact all parents/guardians to welcome them to the program Pick-up weekly supplies and snack Develop a check-in system as children arrive/depart program Submit all supplies requested to the director by 15th of prior month Develop a consistent schedule to include programming for morning and afternoon care at designated school site.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES Create/update a monthly newsletter to give to parents (Y compliant template will be available) Organize planned curriculum for all sites including supplies to be purchased for each site based on registration Pull and fax rosters weekly to all schools Create monthly snack menu and order accordingly Distribute snack by site to be picked up by Site Directors Ensure staff files are up to date and within state licensing guidelines Communicate with Youth Director any items needed to be completed by staff SCHOOL’S OUT CAMP a.
Oversee all School’s Out days: Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Holiday Camp, etc.

Attends mandatory staff meetings and training’s to meet Social Service requirement of 16 hours per year YMCA COMPETENCIES (Leader): Communication & Influence Developing Self & Others Functional Expertise QUALIFICATIONS: The School Age Site Director will meet the qualifications set forth by the Department of Social Services.
Staff shall be: of good character and reputation; capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities; capable of accepting training and supervision; and capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing as applicable to the job responsibility.
The School Age Site Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including: Minimum 21 years or older At least one year’s experience working with children- ages 5 weeks to 12 years old-in a licensed, child care setting One year supervisory experience A bachelor's degree in a child-related field such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation; or Forty-eight semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credit from a college or university of which 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours are in child-related subject; or Two years of programmatic experience with one year in a staff supervisory capacity and at least one of the following education backgrounds: A one-year early childhood certificate that consists of at least 30 semester hours; or A child development credential Program directors without management experience shall have one college course in a business- related field or 10 clock hours of management training that covers the management functions of: CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment) MAT (medication administration) certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment) Ability to complete all pre-employment trainings before first day on floor.
These include: New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention training, Child Development training, licensing training, discipline training and Afterschool Basics.
Ability to use speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults Ability to communicate and work effectively with groups of children and their parents in a loving yet professional manner Clear all background checks as required by the YMCA of South Hampton Roads and obtain a negative TB test.
Knowledge and maturity to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety practices and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques Ability to manage the daily administrative, program-related and supervisory responsibilities of the school-age child care program Ability to articulate “best practice” in the field of School Age child care Demonstrates ability to engage in all functions associated with the daily care, activities, and routines of program’s children ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to: 1.
May be required to walk, stand, run, kneel, climb and stoop 2.
Must be able to sit on the floor and get back up 3.
Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking 4.
Must be able to lift, pull and pull up to 50 pounds 5.
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time 6.
