POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Division Youth Development Director, and with the purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA, the Teen Director will be directly responsible for leading and overseeing comprehensive programs designed to engage, empower, and support teenagers within our community.
The Teen Director is a champion for developing new initiatives for youth ages 13-17 years old and upholding/growing existing programs for teens.
They will develop and cultivate relationships with community stakeholders to enhance program reach and impact.
This role involves strategic planning, program development, implementation, and evaluation to ensure the delivery of high-quality, impactful initiatives that align with the YMCA's mission and values.
Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding renewal and satisfactory work performance as outlined in the job description.
DIVISION OF DUTIES: 60% Program Development and Implementation 30% Community Engagement 10% association initiatives, Annual Giving and other special projects ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Teen Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including: Strategic Leadership: Develop a visionary strategy for association-wide teen programming in alignment with the YMCA's mission, ensuring programs cater to the diverse needs and interests of teenagers.
Collaborate with the VP of Youth Development & Director of Youth Development Operations to establish long-term goals, objectives, and performance metrics for teen programming.
Program Development and Implementation: Create innovative and relevant programs focusing on academic support, leadership development, career readiness, health and wellness, civic engagement, and other pertinent areas.
Oversee the successful execution and delivery of teen programs across multiple YMCA locations, ensuring consistency in quality and adherence to best practices.
Team Management and Development: Recruit, train, and supervise a dedicated team of program coordinators, instructors, and volunteers.
Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to staff.
Community Engagement and Partnerships: Cultivate strong relationships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance program reach and impact.
Collaborate with external partners to secure resources, funding, and opportunities for program growth and sustainability.
Evaluation and Reporting: Establish evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and impact on teen participants.
Compile and analyze data, preparing comprehensive reports and presentations for stakeholders and funders.
Teamwork & Partnership: Collaboratively work alongside association youth development leadership to uphold the identified standards and priorities set forth by each team member YMCA CAUSE-DRIVEN LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: Engaging Community Communication & Influence Developing Self & Others QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 21 years or older Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Recreation or a related field preferred Minimum 5 years supervision of staff.
Strong background in supervision and leadership Minimum two years of programmatic experience as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards for licensed child care center director (at minimum), including continuing education/training hours CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment) MAT (medication administration) certification (or ability to certify within 60 days of employment) Clear Criminal Background Check, and CPS check and a negative TB test PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES: YMCA Team Leader certification preferred Experience in budget management and producing earned revenue Adequate speaking, hearing and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults Able to communicate and work effectively with groups of children and their parents Knowledge and maturity to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety practices and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques Ability to manage the daily administrative, program-related and supervisory responsibilities of the school-age child care program Able to inspire teamwork with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Will be in contact with all levels of staff, children, parents, members and visitors Must be able to work beyond normal working hours, weekends and holidays as needed for early morning meetings, extended weekday meetings/trainings or weekend trainings/meetings PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time May be required to walk, stand, run, kneel, climb and stoop Must be able to sit on the floor and get back up Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking Must be able to lift, pull and pull up to 50 pounds Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications BACKGROUND CHECKS: An offer of employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory results to meet minimum requirements of the position.
