The Applications Engineer performs a wide variety of technological functions in various aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering; primarily in support of design and development of automation systems.
Includes preparing and writing innovative detailed proposals for potential and existing customers, mainly working from general automation ideas and concepts.
Requirements: Role and Responsibilities Responsible for conceptual development to included pricing and writing detailed technical proposals for all types of automation equipment and projects; involved engineering management when technical complexity is high.
Assists staff in design and development of products, systems, processes, and/or equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely with customer specifications; involves third party vendors and suppliers in the quoting process as required.
Travels to customers’ job sites to assist or lead in project and/or product development; works closely with client’s engineer(s)/staff to design specifications.
Obtains and prepares detailed estimates of time, labor, and/or material costs required for work areas such as product design, testing, machine building, equipment installation, and/or manufacturing processes.
Assembles and collects all necessary technical information and customer specifications from engineering and sales and marketing, in order to prepare detailed proposals; presents proposals to clients when required.
Defines scope of work detailed enough in proposal to allow project manager and team to begin work on system.
Educational / Training Requirements A minimum of an associate degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial and/or manufacturing engineer or equivalent field.
3+ years of overall experience in mechanical and/or electrical engineering support.
CAD experience a plus.
Programming experience a plus.
Additional Requirements An exceptionally strong desire to succeed in specifying complex products to include sensors and associated equipment.
Self-motivated and able to self-teach (ability to research and find solutions).
Customer/client focused.
Possess strong leadership/followership skills.
Must be able to understand and interpret statistical data.
Demonstrate interpersonal and organizational skills.
Must have strong communication (oral and written) and problem-solving skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
