Parks, Recreation and Tourism is seeking individuals that enjoys participating in therapeutic recreation and has a passion for working with participants that have disabilities to primarily support the department’s therapeutic summer camps, activities will be held at parks and recreational facilitates citywide.
The primary duties include assisting in the planning, scheduling, facilitation, and development of summer camp TR programs for various age groups of children and adults participants with disabilities.
Provides excellent customer service that meets the expectations of the City’s Customer Service Initiative, while following set standards for providing customer service.
Plans and participates in activities appropriate for ages 6-12, ages 13-17 and ages 18+ years old in the programs; ability to modify or make adaptations to activities for individuals with various disabilities to participate to the best of their abilities.
Utilizes general knowledge of recreational activities including athletics, arts and crafts, music and dance, board games and special events.
Requires active participation in community integration outings.
Assists with management, supervision, facilities and support of multiple activities, camps and classes simultaneously throughout the City.
Responsible for program and participant safety; inventory control; and set up, take down and clean-up of facility and work area.
Inspects facilities and play areas for safety/damage, enforces safety rules and regulations and maintains organization.
Responds to accidents and injuries, may perform basic first aid.
Resolves conflict between participants in a calm and orderly manner; report behavior issues to management staff and parents; addresses complaints.
Processes program registrations and collect payments.
Registers participants for various programs, and services, and processes other monetary transactions such as: facility and shelter rentals, merchandise sales.
Issues permits, reservations and receipts through ActiveNet software.
Transaction processing includes, fund collection, credit card processing, money and check handling, performs daily closeout process and reconciles deposit, all in compliance with applicable accounting procedures.
Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one month of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment.
May require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
