Chesapeake Public Works is seeking a motivated and detailed-oriented individual to maintain and repair structural components of city buildings, with special emphasis on carpentry and basic structural preventative maintenance.

Tasks include, but are not limited to: Perform all types of normal structural maintenance and repair including some minor construction.
This may include supervision of contractors performing similar work, to include inspection and quality assurance.
Perform minor modifications to structures during renovation projects.
Repair shingle and built-up roofing systems.
Maintain necessary city records and purchase materials.
Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
EPA, CFC license type 2, 3, or universal within 60 days of hire.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces.
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
