Job Description “Chesapeake Public Library is seeking an outgoing and enthusiastic part-time Driver I, who has a passion for delivery services, new technology, and public service, to perform transportation and sorting of material for the system and quality customer service.
More than books, Chesapeake Public Library offers the opportunity to work independently and assist with developing improvement to training, delivery routes, processes, and procedures as a Driver I.
The position utilizes and develops skills in trending technology such as rental machines, self-service checkouts, automated materials handling, and delivery lockers during the transportation and distribution of Library materials throughout the City of Chesapeake.

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to the satisfactory completion of one year of a college education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license.
Requires at least a valid CDL Class C license to operate a multi-passenger vehicle with an occupancy of 16 or more passengers.
May be required to obtain a CDL Class B license with Passenger Certification based on assignment.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications “Experience with a box truck, cargo van, and/or operating a vehicle with a lift; use of equipment like Amazon Hub Lockers, Self-Checkout, Red Box, printers, or assembly line machinery; and, use of applications like Microsoft, Integrated Library Systems, Social Media Platforms, and Adobe is highly desired.
Must be able to maneuver a hand truck, lift, bend, reach, and stoop.

Please note: This position does not require a CDL License The selected candidate will also need a physical and a drug screening.

The schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the department.
The hours can include anytime Monday-Thursday 7:30 am – 8:00 pm, Friday-Saturday 7:30 am – 6:00 pm, and Sunday 11:00 am – 6:00 pm Sun.
Drug Screening: MARIJUANA In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive.
As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing.
This drug test includes testing for marijuana.
Generally, a positive test result for marijuana, alcohol, or other controlled substances will disqualify an applicant from employment.
Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse an applicant from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
