BECO is seeking an Accountant to join our expanding team.
This position will work alongside our accounting department and operations team, independently managing the bookkeeping and administrative requirements of related retail and hospitality businesses.

This position reports to our corporate office in Chesapeake.
Minimal travel within Hampton Roads (Southside) required (mileage reimbursed).
The Accountant performs professional work as a full charge bookkeeper utilizing Quickbooks for a small group of related companies.
This role will collect invoices, process accounts payable, analyze and investigate billing errors and/or omissions and maintain on time vendor payments.
A 3rd party payroll service is used for payroll processing; this position maintains the data entry and onboarding process as it relates to hiring, compensation, benefits and related requirements.
This position will also include some accounting department responsibilities related to recurring monthly processes, banking, and administrative assistance.
The candidate must possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet to meet deadlines.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who welcomes challenges with strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
Recurring functions:
Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of QuickBooks as well as month-end close reporting, including but not limited to budget reports and bank reconciliations.
Keeping track of payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, and statements.
Administration of unemployment claims
Processing check requests and expense reports on a regular basis.
Accurately reviewing, coding, and processing vendor invoices.
Performing data entry associated with accounts payable matters.
Prepare1099s
Prepare and submit monthly sales tax returns
Flexibility to support management in various company-wide initiatives.
Pre-Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 4 years of related experience in a bookkeeping or similar environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
QuickBooks experience required.
Strong organizational and communication skills
Independent, able to work effectively and efficiently under minimal supervision.
Must be a team player who easily adapts to change.
Sales tax experience preferred.
