POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Senior VP of Finance, the Senior Accountant has direct responsibility for maintaining the general ledger; generating, analyzing and distributing supplemental financial reports; and other assigned financial projects.
This high-functioning role primarily requires the analytical and discretionary exercise of independent judgment and discretion with respect to matters of significance, and the ability to work independently and efficiently is paramount.
The Senior Accountant is accountable for the accounts payable function and other general accounting functions.
Reporting to this role is the Accounts Payable Specialist and the Accounting Associate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: General Ledger Functions Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries.
Reconcile all bank accounts.
Maintain and reconcile subsidiary records to general ledger account balances.
Assist in the quarterly conversion of the internal financial statements to GAAP, and assist in preparation of workpapers and supporting documentation for annual financial statement audit.
Research, analyze, and resolve financial issues.
Maintain and ensure completeness of the journal entry filing system for original source documentation.
Accounts Payable Functions Review and post all accounts payable invoice batches prepared by Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounting Associate weekly.
Prepare and file monthly state sales tax returns.
Analyze monthly purchasing card audit prepared by Accounting Associate and upload/post transactions in accounts payable for payment.
Supervise annual 1099 filing.
Analyze potential deviations from internal controls and promptly report suspected irregularities to supervisor.
Maintain knowledge and proficiency with respect to regulatory changes, governmental filing requirements, and changes in GAAP.
Other Functions Oversee day-to-day activities of accounting staff in direct line of supervision, providing guidance and development to the Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounting Associate, including mid-year and annual reviews.
Serve as a backup to all accounting staff in direct line of supervision, institute other cross-training as possible, and train new staff in these positions as the need arises.
Serve as liaison for all corporate and center staff related to reports, postings, balances, and other financial matters.
Assist center staff in understanding and maintaining business and finance-related procedures.
Participate in financial projects that may occur from time to time, such as creating additional financial reporting tools and computer conversions.
Responsible for other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

3 years of accounting experience.
1-3 years of supervisory experience.

Advanced proficiency with manipulating and analyzing data with Microsoft Office Excel.
Proficient and accurate data processing skills with Google Suite.
Oral and written communication skills and the ability to respond to a wide variety of constituencies, including staff, volunteers, members, program participants, vendors, etc.
Attention to detail, organizational and analytical skills; ability to plan, develop, organize, manage, and administer tasks.
Ability to protect company information by keeping it confidential.
Ability to set priorities and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES: A person of maturity, good judgment and professionalism, who can operate with a minimum of guidance from the Senior VP of Finance.
