*GENERAL PURPOSE*
This position performs difficult professional work maintaining a variety of accounting records and completing various financial reports; assists in maintaining payroll.
Work is performed under general supervision.
*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*
· Performs general accounting tasks required to maintain and report financial activity.
· Assists in maintaining a financial accounting system compliant with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
· Assists in maintaining payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, and subsidiary accounts.
· Performs general accounting tasks required to maintain and report financial activity.
· Prepares journal entries and reconciles various general ledger accounts.
· Reconciles and processes payroll and benefit related journal entries;balances, reconciles, and posts adjusting entries for payroll liability accounts.
· Assists in year-end financial close; preparation of audit schedules and financial statements.
· Assists in providing information and analysis regarding expenditures and revenue.
· Assists in preparation, review and reconciliation of payroll related federal, state,and local reporting including 1099, 941, W-2, VEC, and Virginia Retirement System.
· Assists in preparation and review of a variety of federal, local, and state reports to include Medicaid reimbursement, Virginia Department of Education Annual School Report, and School Board Financial Report.
· Assists payroll in submission of electronic payments for employee withholdings.
· Provides support to payroll with liens, garnishments, and child support.
· Processes accounts payable payment cycles.
· Assists in preparing a variety of federal and state reports.
· Assists in monitoring School Activity Funds and the Athletic Fund; assists school staff with questions and concerns related to these funds.
· Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or finance.
· One year of related experience involving accounting and financial systems.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*
· Knowledge of public accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
· Knowledge of software and equipment as applied to the maintenance of an accounting system.
· Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances governing the receipt, custody, and expenditure of school funds.
· Skill in the use of spreadsheets and word processing software.
· Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data.
· Ability to communicate ideas effectively, orally, and in writing,
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
*WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
· Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
· This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
· Work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work.

Pay: $66,131.
